ISSUES

Every great school board starts with listening. Our plan for District 5 was created from conversations with families, educators, and community members who share one common goal: helping every child in District 5 succeed. This plan is built around the values that matter most, with an emphasis on transparency, teacher support, trauma-informed practices, togetherness, and thriving futures.

I believe effective leadership is rooted in collaboration, not control. As your school board representative, I will continue building trust through honest communication, consistent engagement, and a commitment to decisions that put students first. Together, we can strengthen our schools, empower our educators, and ensure every family feels seen, supported, and heard.

Top Campaign Issues

INCREASING TRANSPARENCY

Transparency means making sure families and educators always know how decisions are made and how they affect our schools. I will communicate clearly, share board updates, and remain accessible to students, parents, teachers, and staff. Listening and accountability build trust, and I am committed to open communication, honest reporting, and consistent engagement across District 5.

  • Community Access and Accountability: Be accessible and responsive by communicating openly with families and staff and making sure questions and concerns are acknowledged and respected.

  • Open Dialogue: Host quarterly community meetings across District 5 to listen, answer questions, and talk about what’s happening in our schools.

Community Updates: Share clear, easy-to-read summaries of my board votes on key decisions, so families understand where I stand and why.

ENHANCED SUPPORT FOR TEACHERS

Strong schools start with supported teachers. When educators have the tools, respect, and professional growth they need, students benefit. I will advocate for competitive compensation, elevate teacher and administrator voices through advisory structures, and support safe, well-equipped classrooms that help educators excel and students thrive.

  • Investing in Educators: Support competitive, living-wage salaries and meaningful professional development that help teachers grow and feel valued.

  • Faculty Voice: Uplift educator perspectives by creating a Teachers Advisory Council and an Administrators Advisory Table. These groups will provide classroom and school leadership insight to help inform student-focused decisions.

  • Facilities & Classroom Resources: Advocate for classrooms to receive the tools, technology, and learning environments students and teachers need to do their best work every day. Provide clear communication about repairs and improvements already included in the budget.

TRAUMA-INFORMED SCHOOLS

Students learn best when they feel safe, understood, and supported. I will prioritize school environments that promote student well-being, help students and families understand and access available mental-health supports, and reinforce proactive safety efforts. By listening to school staff and families and collaborating with community partners, we can address student needs early and foster supportive learning environments.

  • In-School Listening: Visit schools across District 5 to connect with students and school staff, listening firsthand to needs and staying grounded in day-to-day classroom realities.

  • District 5 Safety & Wellness Forum: Bring together educators, families, students, support staff, school resource deputies, and youth-serving organizations to strengthen trust and support proactive safety strategies that keep students safe before issues escalate.

  • Student Support & Family Connections: Facilitate collaboration with school leaders and community partners to help families understand and access the district’s expanded mental-health services. Promote family-focused workshops and resources that strengthen communication, understanding, and engagement in student well-being.

TOGETHERNESS

Families, schools, and communities achieve more when we work together. I will encourage strong family engagement, support early-learning partnerships, and create opportunities for student leadership and voice. Building welcoming schools where parents, community partners, and students feel included strengthens school culture and student outcomes.

  • Parent & Community Engagement: Support school leadership in building welcoming spaces where families and community partners feel valued, connected, and invited to participate in student life and school pride activities.

  • Early Learning Readiness: Strengthen early-learning partnerships that help Pre-K students build literacy and STEAM skills by connecting schools with libraries, community groups, and family education programs to support kindergarten readiness.

Student Voice: Champion opportunities for students to share their perspectives by encouraging student leadership groups and student councils, helping ensure student experiences inform school culture and thoughtful decision-making conversations.

THRIVING SCHOOLS

A strong education prepares students for life, not just graduation. I will support efforts that expand college and career readiness, life-skills development, and real-world learning. By building pathways to higher education, workforce opportunities, and financial empowerment, we will help students graduate confident and ready for their next step.

  • Help Students Reach College Goals: Partner with school leaders to increase awareness of existing college advising, scholarship information, and ACT/SAT preparation resources available to students and families.

  • Future Ready Futures: Build on the strong foundation of Future Ready Institutes by highlighting entrepreneurship and essential life skills such as communication, business development, digital literacy, and interviewing.

  • Financial Empowerment for Students and Families: Support age-appropriate financial learning across K–12 by connecting school leaders with financial experts who provide students and families access to guidance on saving and sound decision-making.
